Yoga in the Middle is a yoga studio offering classes to students of all ages and levels. We are the first yoga studio in Alameda County (east bay), California, to receive certification as a green business, through the Bay Area Green Business program.

We are committed to sustainable practices, including the products we use in our studio (organic cotton blankets, hemp bolsters, cork blocs, renewable and recyclable rubber yoga mats). We encourage our students to use public transit, walk or bicycle to class, and have rewards for this, as well as a weekly class offered free to people who don't drive alone.

The restraint, or Sanskrit "yama", of non-harming is one of the tenets of yogic philosophy, and can be applied beyond oneself and others to our stewardship of the earth. Becoming aware of the consequences of our actions in terms of use and disposal of resources opens up a broader sense of connectedness to the surrounding world.

Our highly trained yoga instructors (most have completed 500-1000+ hours of yoga teacher training) offer classes for kids, pre-natal moms, people with cancer, and seniors, in addition to a full roster of introductory through intermediate yoga classes.

We host a monthly series of workshops conducted by nationally and internationally renowned teachers and teacher-authors.Our studio is located 1/2 mile from BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), is adjacent to the main shopping district in Castro Valley and has a bike rack for cyclists.

We currently offer some yoga supplies and books for sale, and have future plans to offer online sales and links to other green organizations, and on-site sale of fair trade and green products related to yoga.
