These seeds are sustainable gathered by small communities in the Amazon and the Tagua Nut, or Ivory nut came from a project called the Tagua Initiative , a project created by Conservation International, an environmental organization based in Washington D.C that works to conserve biodiversity by supporting local Rain Forest communities worldwide.

Yet each year millions of hectares of rain forest are lost by Logging, mining, cattle operations. However, if land owners, governments and those living in the rain forest today were given a viable economic reason NOT to destroy the rain forest, it could and would be saved.
