Soap nuts are a totally organic, naturally produced cleaning product that has been used for centuries in Indoa and other Asian countries. The growing awareness of the need to protect our water sources as well as an increasing amount of chemical sensitivities in people has encouraged an interest in this greener-than-green way to clean laundry and homes.

Soap nuts are not a detergent but are the dried fruit of the sapindus mukorrosi tree, the outer shell of which is coated in saponin, a natural surfactant which acts to break the surface tension of water and in effect, make water "wetter".

Soap nuts are 100% chemical and toxin free, biodegradable, hypo-allergenic, compostable, low-sudsing, affordable, non-polluting, minimally packaged and sustainably harvested. They are excellent for high-efficiency washing machines and people with skin sensitivities. They are also great for delicate fabrics since they are more gentle on fibers than commercial detergents. We use recycled or recyclable materials to ship our products. We recommend using a natural detergent booster on tougher stains, such as Borox or Oxo-Brite.

Soapnuts naturally soften clothing, but vinegar or baking soda may be added to the rinse cycle for additional softening. It is very simple to use soap nuts in the laundry; simply toss 3-4 soap nuts in the small musling or cotton drawstring bag provided, toss into the washer, and let the washer run through its cycle. The same bag of soap nuts can be re-used for up to 5 wash loads, depending on the water temperature used (warmer water uses the saponin more quickly, lessening the amount of loads).
