Common Circle Expeditions
Common Circle Expeditions offers one and two week bike tours of the Oregon Coast, the Willamette Valley, and the big island of Hawaii. Along the way, we visit a variety of organizations - permaculture sites, organic farms, intentional communities - to discuss issues of sustainability and perform service projects. We design our tours with the beginning to intermediate cyclist in mind.
Each tour starts with an in-depth orientation which helps build a healthy traveling community -- gets everyone introduced, covers basic bike mechanic and touring safety skills, and provides other bits needed to make a successful tour. Bright and early the next morning, we hit the road, supported by a gear van that carries all of our gear and provides basic on-road support.
On the road, folks quickly form an impromptu on-the-road intentional community, with the facilitators providing very minimal group facilitation, letting things flow naturally. With the usual diversity, an incredible dynamic usually ensues together with campfire discussions where one is just as likely to hear about permaculture as a chat about the situation in middle east or about the advantages of solar and wind energy.
Roughly a third to half the time is spent biking, the other time spent at host sites, doing service projects, in discussions, and simply chilling out. We also offer a number of extra options on our tours, such as kayaking. The group quickly comes to function as a self-sustaining pod on wheels seeking higher meaning, authenticity and community, as the ropes are learned.
Our tours challenge and inspire, empower with knowledge of what is possible, and facilitate incredible social change, both in the communities we visit and in turn the communities of our riders.
