World Health Organization
The World Health Organization is the health specialized agency in the United Nations. It was established on 7 April 1948. WHO's objective is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health.
The Eleventh General Programme of Work is named "Engaging for health" and covers the 10-year period 2006-2015. It provides a long-term perspective on determinants and trends in health. It also proposes action based on a seven-point global health agenda that charts the broad strategic framework and direction for the work of WHO.
The Health Assembly is composed of representatives from WHO's Member States. The main tasks of the World Health Assembly are to approve the WHO programme and the budget and to decide major policy questions.
