Chicago Fashion Designer Ami Melecio, has been able to combine her Latin Roots with her love of style and the environmental concerns we all face today. She continues to make a conscious choice to provide simple alternatives to conventional techniques, while supporting socially responsible practices.

The Only Natural Designer in Chicago, and uses the highest quality of Eco-Friendly textiles such as Hemp , Linen, Organic Cotton, Silk and recycled Packaging . Chemical free Paints/Dyes are used to design many of her one of a kind Dresses and Hemp/Cotton Handbags. Organic Cotton represents a return to safe and sustainable practices by building strong soil through crop rotation with natural fertilizers and free from toxic chemicals.

Hemp is easily grown in good soil and temperature climates, without the use of pesticides or herbicides. It is also resistant to both mould and ultraviolet light. There are concerns about the safety of our ground water, clean air, clean soil and cutting down old growth forests. Aquiring a product made of the fabrics, addresses all of these issues.

Ami was able to showcase her creations with a Fashion Show on
ABC7Chicago news segment - Style Watch - on 7th of June 2007 with 190 North host Janet Davies. She was chosen for the premier issue of Chicago Latina Underground magazine launching fall 2007. Interviewed by Chicagos very own Online Dj ,NicciC were she discussed her Latin/Italian influences in Fashion.
