Rio Muchacho Organic Farm is a unique adventure with a rich interaction between environment and culture. It is not only a chance to see rural Ecuador as the locals do, from the back of a horse but to share, learn, and participate in a different culture. The farm is situated in the river valley of the same name on the mid coast of Ecuador just north of Bahía de Caráquez.

The farm is a model for the community demonstrating reforestation, permaculture, alternative technologies and organic farming techniques, while being a productive organic farm. This work is further enhanced in the environmental primary school coordinated by the farm. Here the children not only have a more creative, practical education but they learn new techniques for sustainable farming and practice recycling and waste management, vegetable growing, reforestation etc.

While on the farm you can experience the local culture through activities such as river-shrimp fishing and making chocolate from the bean to the cup! Also you can go by horse to visit the humid forest and see howler monkeys with a stop at the refreshing waterfall on the return journey.

Bird watching is also good at the farm. Most commonly seen species are mot mot, kingfishers, woodpeckers, oropendulas, herons and parrots and we are starting to see toucans in the area. Other activities available are milking the cows and making fresh flavoured cheese, picking tree gourds ?mate? to make your own cups and spoons, cutting palm seeds & tagua to make rings & pendants, applying a local medicinal clay face mask and fresh aloe vera from the farm.
