Volunteer India
Do you have time off and don't know what to do? Or are you looking to break from your regular hectic schedule and do something meaningful for society?
Help facilitate a better quality of life for children in the Himalayan region of India when you volunteer at the School for the Deaf, Non-speaking and Blind. As a volunteer at the school, you will be working with children in rural India.
Volunteers on this project will be working to promote positive educational, social, and health-related changes for rural children. You will also be trained to communicate with the children through simple sign language, lip reading and touch. The school?s main purpose is ?normalisation into society for disabled children and developing their self-confidence?.
Your main role will be assisting local teachers in the instruction of classes. You may be working in small groups or on a one-to-one basis for those that are struggling. The school welcomes volunteers who want to get involved in other aspects of school life or run extra-curricular activities such as computers, sport, art and crafts, drama, games etc. As the standard of English is quite poor it is recommended that you come with ideas such as games and fun activities for the classroom.
Volunteers can start on any Friday/Saturday from April to September and spend a minimum of two working weeks at the school. Please email us to apply or for further details.
