Small business owners often think that they do not have as much impact on the environment as large corporations. However, the sum of small businesses combined actually accounts for a lot of the damage to the environment. Stokes (2000) attributes the poor environmental performance of small businesses to the low level of awareness of their environmental impact. Continue reading

Wind power has been used by people for thousands of years as a source of power, from powering sailing ships to pumping water from rivers and wells. Many countries, for example the USA, the Netherlands, the UK, West Germany, Sweden and Denmark, are successfully using wind power as an alternative source of energy. However, wind is unreliable, variable and difficult to predict, yet these drawbacks are less serious than
Santa Cruz. NASA researchers have been testing a new energy source which could replace fossil fuel to power jets and perhaps even spaceships. Algae fuels have already been successfully tested on jets. The interesting thing is that algae has the ability to grow and develop in wastewater.
People are recognizing the benefits of going green and are trying to live a green life in every possible way. From recycling initiatives and pledges to cut carbon dioxide emissions, to companies adopting environmental policies, everyone is trying to approach a green lifestyle. People now are following green fabrics in their outfits. The eco-friendly fabrics are in much demand now as the clothes made out of this material are sold as hot cakes in the market.
As early as the third century BC, people were aware of the power of the focused sunlight. The Greek mathematician Archimedes (287-212 BC) is famously said to have defended Syracuse (Sicily) from attack using giant mirrors that directed intense beams of sunlight on to the enemy ships, causing them to burst into flames. Today, solar power is used for more peaceful purposes, harnessed by a range of technologies to generate clean, renewable energy.
April 22, 1970 was the very first Earth Day celebration in the United States. For forty years now people have learned about appreciating the Earth’s natural environment. It was initially sparked by the massive oil spill in 1969 off the coast of Santa Barbara, California. Senator Gaylord Nelson, a US Senator from Wisconsin, incensed by the environmental damage, spearheaded Earth Day.
