Eco-conscious companies and consumers can fight the energy crisis with JNF GoNeutral
Glaciers are melting around the world, severe storms are becoming more frequent, and animals are being forced out of their natural habitats. Left unchecked, rising temperatures can have disastrous consequences for our planet, including intense heat waves, droughts, wildfires, and the extinction of species.
To cope with the energy crisis, Jewish National Fund, one of America’s leading non-profit organizations, has recently launched JNF GoNeutral - a cutting edge energy-conservation campaign that will help the eco-conscious take action by “neutralizing” their carbon emissions. JNF believes that the solution to the energy crisis lies in taking personal and collective accountability for our negative impact on the planet. On the JNF GoNeutral website, visitors can calculate their carbon emissions and plant trees in Israel or support other environmental projects to “neutralize” their impact. (Israel’s geographical proximity to the equator makes it an ideal location for benefits of afforestation to extend worldwide.) The organisation also offers tips for incorporating environmentally friendly practices into everyday life and provides educational resources.
Now, eco-conscious businesses have a unique opportunity to participate in the JNF GoNeutral project. By lowering production costs and materials, businesses will simultaneously offset, or “neutralize,” their impact on the environment.
Businesses can also become sponsors of JNF GoNeutral: To promote the project, we are creating a directory of certified organizations of our sponsors, similar to those listed on EcoFirms.org, who are doing their part to reduce their toll on the environment. Sponsorship opportunities are offered at varying levels, according to the amount contributed.
Besides contributing to the environment and lowering production costs, “going neutral” means standing out from competitors in your industry. As our collective damage to the environment escalates, awareness of environmental issues has become more widespread. Economic consumption today reflects a growing moral consciousness toward the dangers of our emissions, since more companies have realized their obligation to take a stance on crucial environmental issues. They know that their customers, who are becoming increasingly eco-conscious, will gratify their efforts by choosing their name over others.
