Question/comment: I stumbled upon you site in searching the internet to
 learn more about going green, renewable energy and saving money on
 utilities. The site is a great idea in sharing with others, who are not
 sure how to start saving money and the environment. 

I had an inexpensive idea this past winter. In trying to save money on
 our natural gas bill and not spend so much upfront when you don’t
 have the money to spend at all; I decided to fashion window coverings out
 of polar fleece throw blankets. Since polar fleece keeps you warm and
 holds in heat extremely well, I thought that it might work for windows
 as well…keeping the cold out and the heat in. We have a very large,
 very old Victorian with radiator heating, which has been super expensive
 in the winter months. Given that the price of natural gas increased
 this year, the polar fleece window covering worked keeping our winter gas
 bills/energy spending down about $100/mo. or so less than last year.

I’ve been searching for more ways to save. I came across a site
 called Solarfilmco.com. Just like window film that’s been around since the
 70’s for privacy and sun glare out, but better. This film claims to
 have an R value that also keeps heat in, in the winter. Hence, lowering
 energy consumption and cheaper than storm windows. It looks like I can
 cover about 30 windows for about $400 and save about 25% on my heat
 bill. This items looks like it would pay for itself within the year. Check
 it out!
