Dharma Film Series presents THE SCENT OF GREEN PAPAYA
Saturday, December 6, 7pm ~ This lyrical, magical movie follows the journey of a 10 year old girl, Mui (Lu Man San), who arrives from the provinces of Vietnam in 1951 to work as a servant in the home of a Saigon merchant family. Shy and resourceful, she adapts effortlessly to her responsibilities amidst dysfunctional family dynamics. Mui blooms into a beautiful young woman, eventually moves on to serve in the house of a musician/composer who she has secretly admired. On another level, the movie is about everyday spirituality from an Eastern perspective. Mui has learned the art of slowing down and appreciating subtleties in the world around her, even as she works. Her entire being radiates warmth and peace. As a young woman she brings patience to love, allowing it to ripen in its unique way, delicately savoring each moment of its unfolding. This Vietnamese film was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Foreign Language Film. Presented with the Institute For Meditation & Psychotherapy. $10 at the door, with free refreshments and post-film discussion, $35/3 CEUs for mental health professionals
