An Taisce - 'The Store House, or Treasury' is The National Trust For Ireland.
Established in 1948, it is the most influential environmental body in Ireland.
All our policies reflect our core belief that a high quality environment is central to Ireland achieving a successful and sustainable economy, as well as a high quality of life. This is based on the view that prevention is better than cure, partnership and dialogue are better than conflict and monologue, and strategic planning surpasses reactive expediency.
An Taisce - Protecting the environment for our children through Education Conservation and Participation.
Education
Green Schools
The An Taisce Green Schools Programme is the most successful in the world. Of the 22,000 Schools taking part in Green Schools programmes world-wide, over 2,700 are primary, secondary and special schools (~ 65% of all Irish schools). Currently 1150 Irish Schools have been awarded a Green Flag.
The aim of Green-Schools is to increase students' and participants' awareness of Environmental Issues through classroom studies and to transfer this knowledge into positive environmental action in the school and also in the wider community.
The schools participate to reduce litter and waste, conserve energy and water and work for a safe means of walking and cycling to school.
Blue Flags
The Blue Flag Programme awards Blue Flags to beaches and marinas with excellent environmental management.
National Spring Clean (400,000 will participate this year)
The key objectives of the National Spring Clean are to:
- Encourage clean-ups throughout the whole month of April
- Galvanise the practices of recycling and re-use where possible
- Increase the number of Events and Participants
- Promote personal responsibility for litter
- Heighten awareness of litter and waste issues

Participation
We help local communities to participate in the Planning Process so that they have a voice in the development of their area. We also help local communities participate in protecting their Natural Environment.
Development Plans, Local Area Plans and Planning Applications are sent to An Taisce for comment and we do so in light of the relevant Planning Laws, Development Plans, Local Area Plans and any EU directives that are applicable.
