Car competition to be recycled
Car Takeback
Customers of Cartakeback.com, the UK’s largest manufacturer approved scrap car recycling network are running a competition, in association with Keep Scotland Beautiful, to promote the eco-friendly disposal route which Cartakeback has developed in conjunction with the vehicle manufacturers: taking back and treating cars of their own brand when they reach the end of the road.

And someone could be in for a surprise this winter: winning a brand new car when they recycle their old one. Following the success of the most recent Cartakeback ‘Win a Car’ competition, where the first prize was won by an Inverness, woman, Cartakeback.com Ltd is to give away a brand new Mitsubishi Colt CZ1 to a lucky customer who either has their old car collected, or delivered, to any one of the Cartakeback Authorised Treatment Facilities in Scotland between 17 November and the end of February 2009. Plus there is £500 worth of Halfords vouchers to be won.

Andrew Tromans, Development Manager for Cartakeback said, “Given the success of the last competition we hope that this competition will help to further increase the number of people who are taking the time to think about the best disposal route, not just for themselves but also for the environment.”

Customers can locate their nearest Authorised Treatment Facility or obtain an instant quotation for their vehicle to be collected, which depending on the value of the vehicle may result in a payment being offered, by visiting the Cartakeback.com website or by calling 0845 257 32 33. Full terms and conditions of the competition are available on the website.

Litter Summit
Litter Summit 2008
A national Litter Summit took place on 26th November 2008 in Edinburgh to bring together those working to combat litter in Scotland to debate and plan the way forward.

More than 100 people attended the event, which KSB organised on behalf of Cabinet Secretary Richard Lochhead MSP and Environment Minister Mike Russell MSP, bringing with them a range of views on the current litter situation in Scotland.

The opening address was given by the Environment Minister, followed by short presentations highlighting the local government view, the Scottish situation as KSB sees it and good practice from the Republic of Ireland and England. The experience of reverse vending machines in Europe was also explored. Workshops also took place covering topics such as: working with schools to tackle litter; road verge and railway litter; marine litter; the impact litter may have on tourism. These workshops stimulated debate and will hopefully lead to possible solutions and innovative ways of tackling the issue.
