Fall Update
Fall
rains bring the promise of
mushrooms, and our annual
Fall Mushroom
Retreat is coming up
soon- November 20 -
23. This
is our longest running event and one that we look forward to immensely
each
year. Each
fall the forest floor comes
alive with mushrooms, and during this weekend retreat we hike the woods
filling
our baskets. Back at the ranch we set down to identifying and labeling
specimens. We sort
out the delectable
edibles for an evening feast and have talks on identification and the
many uses
of wild mushrooms and their role in the forest ecosystem. It's a great chance to
learn all about those
mushrooms you've been seeing for years, which you can eat as well as
which ones
to stay away from. It's also just a lot of fun and great camaraderie.

October
was a good month for steelhead on the
Klamath - the first rains brought in a good run of half-pounders, the
young,
fighting fish that the river is famous for. By the second
week of October
adult steelhead were running as well and we had quite a few happy
anglers here
on the ranch, most of them fly fisherman. November arrived
with a storm
that muddied the river up a bit, so those still fishing have switched
to bait
and are waiting for the river to clear up a bit.
